2. Tolerance evidence. When you state a critical tolerance, does the supplier confirm it in writing and explain how it will be measured? Watch for silent assumptions — a quote that never mentions your tightest callout is a quote built on the loose interpretation.

3. Quality system. Is there a certified QMS, and does its scope cover your product type? ISO 9001 certificates are common; the question is whether the scope line and audit history match what you are buying.

4. Inspection capability. What instruments exist on site — CMM, optical projector, hardness tester, surface roughness tester, load testers for springs? And does the factory offer inspection reports per batch, or only on request?

5. Engineering communication. Does the supplier ask about material grade, edge conditions, plating, or assembly intent? Question-asking is the single cheapest predictor of delivery quality.

6. Commercial transparency. Are payment terms, tooling ownership, lead time and revision handling written down? Verbal terms are not terms.

Turning Tolerance Claims into Evidence

Every capability claim maps to a document or a test you can request. If the document does not exist, the claim is an aspiration, not a capability.
